Arcadis, a global leader in sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy for natural and built environments, has appointed Alec Zaballero as Principal in its New York Retail Design Studio. Zaballero brings decades of experience in leading concept design, design management, and client strategy for high-profile retail and branded environment projects across luxury, corporate, hospitality, and entertainment sectors.
“We are thrilled to welcome Alec to the Arcadis team. He is a visionary designer with vast expertise in retail and luxury environments,” says Matt Billerbeck, Retail Practice Group Director at Arcadis. “His ability to translate intricate brand strategies into distinct physical experiences will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our New York retail practice and expand our design influence on a global scale.”
A creative leader and experienced manager, Zaballero is known for guiding high-profile projects and elevating design excellence across his teams. In his new role, he will be responsible for design leadership, studio management, client relations, and business development. He will also serve as a design-driven, public-facing presence for the firm, engaging with industry peers while mentoring team members and advancing Arcadis’ design standards.
With a strong focus on creating authentic, experiential retail environments, Zaballero looks forward to stepping into a broader global role that allows him to put his expertise to work. “What drew me to Arcadis was the quality of the people here,” Alec says. “In a short time, I’ve met an incredible group of subject-matter experts who care deeply about their work and the impact they have on the built environment. I’m thrilled to be part of the team.”
Zaballero joins Arcadis from TPG Architecture, where he successfully led the retail, hospitality, restaurant, and entertainment practices. At Arcadis, he will continue to grow the firm’s retail practice locally while strengthening its capabilities in luxury retail globally. He is committed to creating spaces that are both strategically driven and creatively inspired, balancing brand vision with operational and commercial goals. Building on Arcadis’ rich portfolio of luxury projects, including Tiffany & Co., Dior, and Burberry, Zaballero will continue shaping the physical identities of globally recognized luxury brands.
