How we design facilities is of the utmost importance to our industry. A strong understanding of what type of building you're designing is important to ensure the facility is able to perform properly and is suitable for the end-use. A poorly designed building will not be able to serve its users, nor will it be able to function effectively.

AI—and specifically ChatGPT—can create marketing plans, write our kids’ college essays, and even compose music. But how well it performs can vary wildly and is very much up for debate. 

The 26,000 square-foot Statue of Liberty Museum located on Liberty Island was designed to complement the experience of visitors to this important UNESCO heritage site by illustrating the sculpture’s historical significance and method of construction.

In an effort to avoid a stoppage in production, sub-purlins were installed on the damaged roof and attach a new metal roofing system to those sub-purlins.

Adding to the window energy efficiency was the use of trickle ventilators on the operating windows. Trickle ventilators, extensively used in Europe, provide a convenient alternative to opening windows for fresh air exchange without energy loss of the space conditioned interior air.

With the assistance of the canopy system, the architecture team was able to create a forest-like facade at each of the escalators by the entrance.  

Although much has been said and written regarding the IRA and what it does and does not accomplish, the implications for the building design and construction industry may remain unclear. 

Critical facilities, as defined by the government/FEMA, can include: fire stations, police stations, hospitals, emergency operation centers…and more. Are these critical facilities in your community protected from a lightning strike?
