Shinsegae Namsan is a seven-story, 200,000-square-foot building for national retailer Shinsegae. It has a multi-purpose program, housing both educational, training, conference, and office space for staff, along with a venue for concerts, performances, lectures, and other cultural events.

The project’s design faced a unique set of challenges due to the compact size and its proximity to the imposing 9 West 57th Street. Rather than compete in scale, Hill West focused on creating a building that was whimsical and elegant.
The project’s architect, R2L Architects, required an exterior cladding material that would create a visually captivating façade while also delivering design flexibility and an expedited construction schedule.
