Multifamily Housing Project Promotes Wellness

Artisan - MAIN.jpg
June 21, 2023

FitzGerald, a national architecture, interior design, and sustainability firm, announced the grand opening of Artisan, a 24-story, luxury high-rise apartment property located in Cleveland’s University Circle neighborhood. With 298 units and numerous amenities, Artisan is the first completed component of the Circle Square Master Plan, which is designed to develop a mixed-use, walkable community featuring retail, office, parking, and residential spaces.

“Artisan is situated in University Circle surrounded by Cleveland’s best museums, Case Western University, and Cleveland Clinic" said Ryan Tapak, FitzGerald’s project manager. “Our team is honored to help provide more housing options for medical staff and ultimately contribute to a more lively and connected neighborhood.”

FitzGerald spearheaded architecture and interior design, collaborating with developer White Oak Realty Partners, Ponsky Capital Partners, and Midwest Development Partners alongside local consultant Bialosky. The building offers a variety of floor plans in studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom formats, as well as a rooftop amenity level, covered parking, and ground-floor retail space. Building amenities include a dog wash station, yoga room, bike room, sports simulator room, pool, fitness room, coworking space, and a gear room that enables tenants to rent equipment for exploring the city.

The building engages with and responds to its context, aligning with view corridors connecting downtown Cleveland, Lake Erie, Wade Lagoon, and the rich campus of civic and cultural destinations within the neighborhood. The building’s glass exterior is a striking and modern addition to the skyline, visible from both passing vehicles and at a pedestrian scale. The sizable garage is clad in variegated metal panel, ventilating the space while preserving the exterior aesthetic.

“Connectivity is a unifying thread throughout this project and the greater master plan,” explained Robert Noll, FitzGerald’s project designer. “Every design decision aims to encourage residents to engage with each other, explore their surroundings, and fully enjoy where they live, work, and play.”

Light, airy, and comfortable, the building interiors draw inspiration from the surrounding cultural and natural context. Wood-cladded ceiling planes overlap in the lobby for an impactful entrance, while approachable, genuine materials establish a welcoming atmosphere. Designed with environmental impact and wellbeing top of mind, Artisan has achieved a Green Building Initiative (GBI) Green Globes New Construction Multifamily certification at a Two Globes Level and is currently pursuing Fitwel certification.
