The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is granting Honorary AIA Membership Michele A. Russo, LEED AP, Vice President, Research at AIA national for her exemplary service to the architecture profession. 

Honorary AIA Membership is conferred upon individuals who have made notable contributions to the advancement of the architecture profession but are not otherwise eligible for AIA membership. Candidates must meet a host of criteria to be eligible for honorary membership. AIA staff at the national and component level must meet 10 years employment to be considered. Additionally, candidates must be nominated by a member of the AIA Board of Directors, Strategic Council, chapter leadership, or Knowledge Communities. Nominations are subject to the review and consideration of a jury. 

Russo is widely recognized as a catalyst for strengthening the profession through knowledge. At AIA national, she has built a cohesive research program that helps architects navigate economic change, understand industry trends, and demonstrate the value of design. Her leadership has expanded and elevated cornerstone industry resources—including the Architecture Billings Index, the AIA Compensation & Benefits Report, and the Business of Architecture Firm Survey—ensuring they are more accessible, actionable, and relevant to firms of all sizes.

Before joining AIA in 2015, Russo led the SmartMarket Report program at Dodge Data & Analytics (formerly McGraw-Hill Construction), directing influential industry studies on topics including green building, workforce trends, and building performance. Across more than two decades, her work has shaped how the architecture, engineering, and construction industries understand market forces and emerging opportunities.
