Celebrating and connecting local tradeswomen with community members is the goal of an upcoming International Women’s Day event hosted by Skills Ontario.
The community is invited to participate in the International Women’s Day Networking & Celebration Event hosted at the Frank Hasenfratz Centre for Excellence on Thursday, March 5th from 9:00 am to 8:30 pm.
The event kicks off with a morning and afternoon of skilled trade career exploration for young women in Grades 10 – 12, followed by an evening networking session featuring keynote speaker, Skilled Trades Ontario CEO, Candice White.
In addition to the keynote speaker, participants in the daytime and evening portion of events will have the chance to explore exhibitor booths, try hands-on activities, and hear from a panel of skilled tradeswomen.
The event aims to help women and those who identify as women learn about the career opportunities available in the skilled trades. While the focus is on women, allies and other groups are encouraged to attend, including families, educators, guidance counsellors, influencers and more.
“We’re excited to be offering this event for the third year now for residents in Guelph, Wellington County and the surrounding areas to encourage awareness of the career opportunities available for women to pursue in the skilled trades,” says Lindsay Chester, Program Manager of the Young Women’s Initiatives at Skills Ontario.
Ian Howcroft, CEO of Skills Ontario, says this event is part of a larger mission at Skills Ontario to change lives and inspire leaders through skilled trades and technologies.
“Skills Ontario programming, like the Young Women’s Initiatives, represents a long-term investment in the lives of all Ontarians. Since 1989, we are proud to support Ontario’s highly skilled workforce.”
While this is a registered event, interested individuals can still obtain tickets for The International Women’s Day Networking & Celebration Event with tickets costing $10 per person. To learn more, visit the Skills Ontario Young Women’s Initiatives webpage.Looking for a reprint of this article?
