An upcoming career exploration event organized by Skills Ontario, with collaborating partners Algoma Steel and Tenaris, is inspiring local youth to become skilled trade and technology leaders.

Taking place at Algoma Steel and Tenaris November 25 and 26, the event will introduce Grades 7 and 8 students who identify as female in to careers in skilled trades and technology, with an emphasis on electrical pathways and manufacturing roles.

This event has been organized by the Skills Ontario Young Women’s Initiatives. Lindsay Chester, Program Manager for Young Women’s Initiatives, said the event was designed to give students hands-on experience and a better understanding of skilled trades and technologies.

“Our goal is to help students explore these fields in an engaging way, so they can learn about the skills involved and the opportunities that exist, without focusing on specific job availability,” said Chester. “It’s about sparking curiosity and showing them what these careers look like and we thank Algoma Steel and Tenaris for supporting this event.”

“At Algoma Steel, we believe in creating opportunities that inspire and empower the next generation. Partnering with Skills Ontario and Tenaris on this event allows young women in our community to explore skilled trades in a hands-on, meaningful way. These early experiences build confidence, ignite curiosity, and we’re proud to play a role in helping students explore these pathways.” – Rajat Marwah, President and Chief Financial Officer

“We know education is the foundation for building a skilled and innovative workforce,” said Angela Cruickshank, Human Resources Senior Director for Tenaris in Canada. “By opening our doors for young women to explore careers in trades and technology from an early age, we’re broadening perspectives and empowering the next generation to see the possibilities these fields offer. Events like this are essential for inspiring curiosity and confidence in students helping shape the future of our industry and the Sault community.”
