The year 2025 is proving to be a pivotal one for St. Louis-based Case Engineering, Inc. as the MEP/structural engineering firm celebrates its 30th anniversary, a new President/CEO, and the retirement of Founder/CEO Darrell Case, PE, LEED AP.

Following a 40+ career as a mechanical engineer, Darrell Case has decided to retire and pass leadership of the firm he founded in 1995 onto the next generation. Darrell Case announced on Nov. 12, 2025 that his son COO/Principal/Senior Mechanical Engineer Matt Case, PE, LEED AP is the firm’s new President and CEO, effective immediately.

“Our new leadership has been cultivated from within the company. Matt Case, the new President and CEO, came to work with us in 2009 and rose through the system to where he is today. I am happy to pass my legacy on to him, and to the rest of our leadership team who spent many valuable years working at Case Engineering before becoming partners five years ago. I am very blessed with the success and leadership of the company and I am honored to leave it in their very capable hands,” said Darrell Case.

Matt Case is a registered professional engineer in 47 US states and joined his father at Case Engineering in 2009 and was named COO in 2020. He is experienced in mechanical system design for new construction and renovation of institutional and commercial projects focused on the retail, hospitality, multi-family housing and municipal industries. He is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). He has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Under the new leadership, Matt Case says he and the firm’s ownership group (Principal/Senior Mechanical Engineer James Eyre, PE, LEED AP; Principal/Manager of Plumbing Engineering Nicholas Hipp, CPD; Principal/Senior Structural Engineer Kyle Linenfelser, PE, SE, LEED AP; Principal/Senior Structural Engineer Ardie Mansouri, PE; Principal/Senior Mechanical Engineer John Virtudazo; and Principal/Senior Mechanical Engineer Luke Wild, PE) plan to continue his father’s legacy of providing the highest level of service to the firm’s clients, employees and the community, and promoting the welcoming, culturally diverse work environment that Darrell Case created.

The ownership group says it plans to expand the firm’s services with a focus on sustainable, high-performance building systems, embracing emerging technologies that improve design accuracy and efficiency, and continuing to foster strong client relationships through responsive, solutions-driven service.

“As I, along with the rest of our outstanding ownership group, take the reins of the company my father built, I’m committed to honoring his legacy while guiding our firm into the future,” said Matt Case. “We aim to continue earning the trust of our clients and our employees by upholding the integrity, quality, and dedication that have defined our name for generations.”

Celebrating 30 Years

Following ten years of mechanical engineering experience working for multiple St. Louis-based firms, Darrell Case decided to branch out on his own and start Case Engineering out of his basement in 1995. Years later after successfully growing the business, he moved the firm’s headquarters to its current location at 796 Merus Court in Fenton, MO.

In 1999, Case Engineering partnered with Montreal, Quebec-based AEdifica, Inc. to form AEdifica Case Engineering in St. Louis and AEdifica Consultants in Montreal to provide engineering services in both cities and throughout North America.

After a successful 20-year partnership and significant growth, the companies decided to part ways, with Darrell Case retaining full ownership of Case Engineering in St. Louis. In 2009, Principal/Senior Structural Engineer Stephen Sacco, PE, joined Case Engineering and launched the firm’s structural department, growing its staff from two to 40 structural engineers and designers/drafters.

Since its founding 30 years ago, Case Engineering has grown the firm to over 100 employees, which include 18 registered professional engineers, structural engineers, mechanical/electrical/plumbing/fire protection engineers, lighting designers, CAD designer/drafters and office support.

Case Engineering has registrations in 49 U.S. states and the District of Columbia and experience designing engineering systems for new construction and renovation of institutional and commercial projects nationwide, with specialized expertise in restaurants, retail, workplace, healthcare, multi-family housing, distribution centers, education, energy management, laboratory facilities and industrial buildings.

Some of Case Engineering’s more recent projects include structural engineering for the new WOW! Entertainment Center in Fenton, MO; plumbing system design for a 93,000 sq ft cold storage expansion at Performance Food Group in Omaha, NE; and MEP engineering for St. Charles Community College’s new Regional Workforce Innovation Center, among other projects.

Case Engineering has received multiple industry awards for its work and expertise and was most recently named a St. Louis Top Workplace for a second time.
