The Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI) announced that it and P+Ex: Center of Excellence for Concrete Preservation and Service Life Extension have established a new strategic partnership, using their collective resources and expertise to enhance the service life of new and existing concrete structures.
This relationship establishes an ongoing framework for the two organizations to share information and pursue aligned objectives such as improving the resilience, safety and lifespan of concrete structures. Through joint initiatives, the partnership aims to streamline efforts related to research, education and best practice development, ultimately reducing redundant efforts and improving efficiency industry-wide.
“The P+Ex and PTI affiliation brings together distinct strengths,” said Tim Christle, executive vice president, PTI. “Together, we are taking another step toward ensuring that post-tensioned concrete structures, emphasize durability, resilience and sustainability, leveraging the extended service life benefits of PT.”
Concrete’s large carbon footprint can be mitigated through repairs and repurposing rather than demolishing and rebuilding, according to P+Ex. It and PTI are committed to promoting the preservation of materials and the embodied energy within concrete assets by advancing methods for extending service life. The partnership includes PTI’s endorsement of P+Ex’s strategic plan and P+Ex’s recognition of PTI as a supporting organization and an industry association member.
“We are excited to have PTI join us on the P+Ex journey, and look forward to working together to create progress toward our shared values,” said Peter Emmons, P+Ex.
P+Ex is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and extending the service life of concrete structures by identifying, quantifying and communicating the benefits of service life extension. The organization promotes national and international engagement to increase awareness of sustainable practices for concrete infrastructure.
For half a century, PTI has developed standards, educational programming and technical resources that support quality applications of post-tensioning in the construction sector. PTI’s mission is to promote and advance the post-tensioning industry through education, certification and technical leadership.
This professional partnership reflects both organizations’ commitment to enhancing the longevity, safety and performance of concrete infrastructure.
