The National Building Museum announced the return of THE BIG BUILD, a free, hands-on community day taking place Saturday, October 18, from 10 AM–4 PM. This annual STEM-focused festival invites visitors of all ages to explore the world of building through unique, interactive activities with roofers, plumbers, carpenters, designers, artisans, and more.
Guests can roll up their sleeves and try out real tools, talk with skilled professionals, and even climb inside heavy machinery at the outdoor Construction Equipment Petting Zoo. With dozens of engaging stations, THE BIG BUILD sparks creativity, inspires curiosity, and helps families connect with the people who create and maintain our built environment.
The National Building Museum remains open during the government shutdown. To show support, federal employees will receive free admission with valid ID (one ticket per day).
This event is FREE to attend. Registration is suggested
WHEN: Saturday, October 18, 2025 10 AM–4 PM
