Metl-Span Names Madison Yards as 2023 Building of the Year

October 25, 2023

Metl-Span®, a recognized leader in the advancement of insulated metal panel technology, has named Madison Yards, a mixed-use development in Madison, WI, as its 2023 Building of the Year.

“We were proud to be able to deliver a solution for this vibrant development that will be providing home, retail, and office space to so many in the surrounding communities,” said Jeff Gosz, sales representative at Metl-Span. “We were able to meet the team’s demands on a variety of fronts, which ultimately made Metl-Span a preferred solution.”

In the heart of Madison, Wisconsin sits Madison Yards, a 21-acre, mixed-use development that will drive a much-needed uptick in housing to the area. The complex includes more than 300 upscale residential units, 11,000 square feet of retail space, a central green space, and a 50,000-square-foot Whole Foods. Other amenities include lounges, a business conference room, private chat rooms, mail and package areas, a fitness center, a game area, a private dining room, a club room, an exterior lounge, and a rooftop deck.

The architect, KTGY, specified a design that would feature a grey façade with blue accents. With the bulk of construction taking place in the Wisconsin winter, the team needed a building envelope solution that would allow for simple and quick installation with a superior thermal barrier. Metl-Span’s CF Architectural panels were chosen in Smoke Gray and Pacific Blue. CF Architectural panels have a flat, monolithic look, providing an attractive appearance while allowing for design flexibility. CF Architectural panels are also easily installed, allowing for a sustainable, energy-efficient solution.

In all, crews installed more than 55,000 square feet of Metl-Span products on the building’s exterior. Metl-Span’s installer on the project was Wenger Construction, Inc. and the general contractor was CD Smith Construction, Inc.

Chosen each year following a survey conducted by Metl-Span teammates, the Building of the Year program honors the innovative work and collaboration amongst architects and other construction professionals to brig compelling, smartly designed and energy-efficient buildings to life. As the winner of the “Building of the Year” competition, Madison Yards will be featured on the cover of the 2024 commemorative book developed by Metl-Span that will be distributed to sales representatives, customers, industry professionals and Metl-Span teammates.
