Building Safety Month is a public awareness campaign held every May to help individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe, sustainable structures. This year’s campaign theme is “Prevent, Prepare, Protect. Building Codes Save” and spotlights specific areas of building safety through each week in May. Weekly topics include “Energy and Innovation”; “Training the Next Generation”; “Water Safety”; and “Disaster Preparedness.” The overall goal is to reinforce the importance of adopting modern, model building codes as well as implementing strong and efficient code enforcement and developing a well-trained, professional workforce to maintain the system.
