Andrew Koska has been promoted to associate principal of the Houston Studio of Perkins and Will.

A native Houstonian, Koska brings more than 15 years of experience to his new position, having previously served as senior project manager. Koska will lead the studio’s healthcare projects, approaching his work with a goal of improving the effectiveness of spaces to foster healing.

“My passion for healthcare is rooted in witnessing the connection between space and the overall wellness of patients in hospitals,” said Koska. “I have found great satisfaction in designing for hospitals and healthcare and look forward to how this new position will allow me to continue this work alongside a team of equally dedicated designers.”

Koska has worked on multiple areas of project design and renovations for key institutions within the Houston medical community including projects for UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, Methodist Hospital, Memorial Hermann, Texas Children’s Hospital, and UTHealth.

He was part of the project team for the recently completed Legacy Community Health Southwest Clinic. Located in one of Houston’s most diverse communities, this new facility integrates healthcare, education, and social services offerings within a thoughtfully designed space which pays homage to the culture of the neighborhood it calls home. Koska was also a designer for the UTHealth Continuum of Care Campus for Behavioral Health. Set to open in early 2022, this academic psychiatric hospital will be the largest facility of its kind in the U.S. as well as the first public mental health hospital built in Houston in more than three decades. The healing qualities of natural light and nature-filled views were a main inspiration and were brought into the design of the space through large windows and courtyard areas.

“Andrew’s portfolio speaks volumes to his passion for facilitating healing through design and his collaborative and creative instincts will be of tremendous benefit to clients and colleagues alike,” said Diana Davis, principal and managing director of the Houston studio.

Koska holds a Master of Architecture from Texas A&M University and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from The University of Texas at Austin. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional and a member of the American Institute of Architects.
