Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance Adhesive Added to BioPreferred Program

January 5, 2012

BEACHWOOD, Ohio —As it continues to provide more sustainable roofing and building envelope products and systems, Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance is proud to announce that its Low Rise Foam Insulation Adhesive Green is now listed in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) BioPreferred Product Program.

“Our Low Rise Foam Insulation Adhesive Green contains a significant percentage of biobased raw material, making it a superior candidate for the USDA’s BioPreferred program,” said Kurt Sosinski, director of product management for the company. “Tremco is pleased to participate in this program and to display the ‘USDA Certified Biobased Product’ logo on the product label and literature. We look forward to working with contractors and building owners who desire more sustainable products which provide the high performance demanded by building codes and insurance requirements.” Low Rise Foam Insulation Adhesive Green is used to secure roof insulation boards directly to roof decks and other insulation layers in low slope commercial and institutional buildings. It is a high strength, fast curing roofing adhesive with virtually no odor and zero VOC.

Earning USDA Certified Biobased Product status requires that products undergo a rigorous certification process. This includes testing by independent third parties, to determine the amount of biobased carbon contained within the product, as measured by ASTM D 6866, the Standard Test Method for Determining Biobased Content of Solid, Liquid and Gaseous Samples Using Radiocarbon Analysis. Depending on the product category, those products containing more than the threshold amount of biobased carbon (typically 20 to 25 percent) are certified. This can have a significant advantage in the marketplace, as federal agencies and contractors are required to give these products purchase consideration. Tremco’s Low Rise Foam Insulation Adhesive Green is certified by the USDA BioPreferred Product Program to contain 48 percent biobased content.
