This course takes a deep dive into low-slope asphaltic roof systems. Attendees will learn a brief history of bitumen (asphalt), BUR roof systems, and modified roof membranes. The course will describe how a high-quality blend of modified bitumen is manufactured, the types and role of the layers of a mod-bit system, the installation options for APP and SBS modified rolls, and the benefits of asphaltic roof systems.
- Cover the history and basic chemistry of modified bitumen blends.
- Differentiate among BUR, APP and SBS systems.
- Discuss the raw materials, wide range of options available and the criteria manufacturers use in the selection process of mod-bit systems.
- Recognize the benefits of mod-bit systems compared to other technologies in low-slope roofing.
