Heather Jones, Construction Economist for FMI Corporation, shared some of the data from FMI’s most recent construction forecast with Roofing Contractor and ARW as part of our State of the Industry report.

The most important ingredient in a fine wine is a quality grape. The grape must be properly watered, exposed to sunlight and fertilized. The result of an insufficient grape could be a wine with an unpleasant taste. 

Our 2010 State of the Industry Report includes the results of an exclusive survey of contractors on their economic outlook for 2010 and beyond. We’ll publish the results in our February issue and provide a sneak peek of the data in a live webinar on Feb. 3. 

It’s easy for roofing contractors to forget the many trade associations, manufacturer’s groups and industry experts who are looking out for the roofing industry’s best interests seven days a week, 365 days a year. 

While I was compiling the data for our 2010 State of the Industry Report, I corresponded with Rod Menzel, President of GreatWay Roofing, and asked him what trends contractors should be aware of in the coming year. He was quick to point out that excellent customer service is crucial in any economy. 

Roofing Contractor and Architectural Roofing & Waterproofing will again produce the State of the Industry Report in 2010. Our coverage will be featured in the February issue of each magazine and complemented by a live webinar on Feb. 3.  

Leaders are hard to come by. Ask anyone in the roofing industry and they’ll either say they have the best leadership or they are still looking. 

If forced to take a side, I would join the ranks of global warming skeptics.  

As 2009 mercifully draws to a close, the staff of ARW find ourselves thankful for what, by all accounts, has turned out to be a decent year!

Now that some assert Global Warming has been regulated to Santa Claus status through “Climategate,” it will be interesting to see how the environmental movement will proceed. The discovery this past month of e-mails from scientists stating there is no credible scientific proof of climate change will further deepen the political divide on this issue.
