Architects and specifiers that simply insert manufacturers guide specifications into their designs resemble Madonna trying to remain relevant in the 21stcentury. The sight of a 50-something-year-old woman of limited talent parading around in teenagers’ clothing is laughable. The tired 80s dance moves are covered over with loud techno beats that drown out the screeches that were once interpreted as singing. To her discredit, she paved the way for Britney Spears, another entertainer of questionable talent.
Both women have carved out a market sector and enjoyed long careers, but neither will be eulogized as a musician — just as architects that insert manufacturers’ guidelines into their specifications will never be considered designers. Although roofing and waterproofing systems have many similarities for most buildings, there are specific details and conditions that are required for proper design.
