The Fuji Factor: Top Social Media Trends

By Stephanie Fujiwara
August 9, 2012

It is no surprise that social media has taken over the online community and has been climbing the charts for years now. More and more people are becoming accustomed to social media as a part of their daily lives whether it is work related or for social reasons. Jobs are even being created solely for the purpose of social media to help create a constant presence in the digital world.

But as easy as it may seem to just go on Twitter and Facebook and write whatever is on your mind, there needs to be interaction and conversations to take place to get the audience involved and create a buzz around your brand.

Here are three trends/tips I came across from some social media experts to think about when implementing social media for your brand:

• More businesses are investing in social media. Phil Mershon, director of events for Social Media Examiner said “Borrell Associates found that small- and medium-sized businesses (SMB) will double their social media advertising budget in 2012. That’s up to an estimated $2 billion in the U.S. alone.”

• Brands embrace real time.“Brands should move to agile marketing and real-time thinking,” explained Ekaterina Walter, social media strategist at Intel. “Brands need to master the art of opportunistic marketing and the art of real-time response. To break through the online noise, they need to stand out with their creative thinking around capitalizing on current buzz and trends.”

• Regularly creating unique content is essential. Lewis Howes, founder of Sports Executives Association and SportsNetworker.com events mentions that for a company or brand to be successful with social media, they will need to create unique content and be consistent, so that your brand can gain attention.

It will be interesting to see the changes in businesses this year and how they approach and incorporate these social media trends into their brands.
