The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) announced that Artspace, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is the distinguished recipient of the 2024 Gindroz Award for Excellence in Affordable Housing.

The development’s fossil-fuel-free design is expected to use 46 percent less energy and emit 33 percent fewer greenhouse gases than a typical gas-fired multifamily structure. The energy efficient design, including heat pumps and energy recovery systems, will save 177 metric tons of avoided greenhouse gas emissions each year.

With a new award from the American Institute of Architects for housing leadership, the East Coast firm RKTB Architects is spreading a national message of rising to meet the current U.S. need for 6 million units of housing, the projected shortfall now causing record homelessness and barriers to affordability and homeownership. 

PEI Architects has completed 2221 Yonge Street Tower in Toronto. Marked by a strikingly new exterior image rising from a six-story podium base and capped by a top-floor sky lounge, 2221 Yonge is a long anticipated addition to a cityscape with hundreds of high-rise buildings.

The U.S. Green Building Council announced the recipients of its 2024 LEED Homes Awards. The annual awards recognize projects, developers and home builders that exemplify leadership in the global residential green building market.

LRS Architects announced the grand opening of Slabtown Square, a seven-story, mixed-use multifamily building. The project includes 200 apartment homes ranging from studio, one, and two-bedrooms, with underground parking, 11,500 square feet of retail space, and a 16,000 square-foot public square in the bustling Slabtown neighborhood of Northwest Portland.  

Once the roofing system was completed, a roof garden system was installed on the building, allowing for a community roof deck.

One proven way that design teams can deliver a virtually airtight, low-embodied building envelope is by integrating structural insulated panels (SIPs) during the planning stages of a project.

The residences feature modern, premium finishes, while the building itself encompasses a rooftop deck offering endless views of Lake Michigan's shoreline and Chicago's iconic skyline.  

Design Wall panels in three custom painted colors and in grey zinc (real zinc in 1mm thickness), and Versa-Lok panels in a custom painted color and in grey zinc were used on this project.
