Serge Ferrari Group Supports Major Roof Replacement at Tropicana Field

Advanced high-performance membrane solutions strengthen the complex stadium roof

Tropicana Field roof replacement

December 5, 2025

Serge Ferrari Group, a leader in designing, developing, and manufacturing innovative composite fabrics, announced that the multi-million-dollar roof replacement at Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays, will feature the company’s Tenseo Xtrem GF 7000, a high-performance fiberglass composite membrane. The project was launched after Hurricane Milton caused significant damage to the existing roof in 2024.

Tropicana Field required 24 new panels, each weighing approximately 5,000 pounds. The panels use Tenseo Xtrem GF 7000, produced from specialized fiberglass yarns and PTFE coating membrane rolls fabricated at Serge Ferrari Group’s facility in Germany before being shipped to Enclose Tensile Structures, the project’s fabricator, for assembly. Architectural design and engineering were led by Geiger Engineers, the New York–based firm.

“Collaborating with the City of St. Petersburg, the Rays organization, and our partners to deliver this kind of resilient roof system has been a standout moment for Serge Ferrari Group,” said David Peragallo, Associate AIA, Senior Specification Manager, North America, Serge Ferrari Group. “When it matters most, the stadium roof is the first line of defense, and we’re honored to help ensure it’s more than up to the challenge.”

Serge Ferrari Group was chosen for its ability to mobilize quickly during an emergency and its long, proven history with major stadium roofs around the world, from top-tier soccer venues to multiple Olympic installations, which gave the project team confidence in the material’s durability and performance. “The scale of the roof and the tight timeline meant only a handful of suppliers could take on a project like this, and we were one of the few with the production capacity to deliver,” said Peragallo. “Our technical expertise was critical throughout the process, as we worked closely with the fabricator to ensure every requirement was met, from material performance to delivery schedules.”

The Tropicana Field roof replacement represents one of Serge Ferrari Group’s most significant U.S. projects to date. Stadium retrofits of this scale are especially challenging, as the new membrane must integrate seamlessly into an existing structure while still meeting stringent wind and safety requirements.  The project remains on schedule, with 18 of the 24 panels already installed.

Engineered for long-term durability with an expected service life exceeding the requested 20 years, the new roof dramatically enhances the stadium’s resilience to severe weather events. For the City of St. Petersburg and the Tampa Bay Rays organization, the result is a safer, more durable facility with reduced maintenance needs and a strengthened asset for the community.

By delivering a membrane solution tailored for durability, weather resistance, and long-term performance — and by responding rapidly at a critical moment — Serge Ferrari Group has helped ensure that Tropicana Field is better prepared for the future.
