Honoring Construction Leadership in Hospitality and Supporting Future Industry Talent

July 22, 2025

NEWH, Inc. is launching the second annual Structures of Hospitality Excellence (SOHE) Award, continuing its mission to recognize outstanding achievement in the field of hospitality construction. The award honors firms that demonstrate excellence in process, project delivery, team collaboration, and company culture, with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship and leadership within the built environment.

Nominations are open now and due by October 31, 2025. Winners will be announced at the ALIS DESIGN+ event at the JW Marriott/Ritz-Carlton Los Angeles L.A. Live on January 29, 2026.

Created to highlight the often-unsung contributors behind transformative hospitality structures, the SOHE Award shines a light on companies that go above and beyond in their approach to project execution and process excellence. Judges will evaluate submissions based on the quality and scope of the project, the firm’s collaboration and leadership style, and its broader contributions to the industry, including mentorship, corporate values, and engagement with the architecture community. Particular attention will be given to firms that demonstrate a deep understanding of how thoughtful construction impacts the guest experience and drives innovation.

“The SOHE Award was created to spotlight the construction professionals who turn hospitality visions into reality; those whose craftsmanship, leadership, and innovation shape the guest experience long before the doors open,” said Chris Tucker, CEO, NEWH, Inc. “As we enter our second year, we’re proud to not only recognize exceptional firms, but also to invest in the future of the industry through scholarships that support the next generation of skilled professionals.”

To be eligible for the 2026 award, the nominated firm must have completed a hospitality new-build or renovation project—such as a hotel, restaurant, casino, bar, or spa—between January 2024 and October 2025. The company must also have at least one NEWH voting member in good standing on staff. Companies may nominate themselves, be nominated by a member of NEWH, or be supported by a local NEWH chapter.  https://newh.org/sohe-award.

NEWH is pleased to announce our esteemed industry judges for the NEWH 2026 SOHE Award: Matthew Archuletta - Regional Director at The Beck Group; Fred Brandstrader, Vice President Construction and Capital Expenditures at Hyatt; Suzanne Saunders, SVP Design & Construction & Chief Elevation Officer at Elevate Renovations + Development by HVMG;  Bryan Thrush, 1st Vice President Development, Design and Construction at Host Hotels & Resorts; and David Tracz, Partner at //3877.

In conjunction with the SOHE Award, NEWH will also present three scholarships totaling up to $20,000.  These scholarships are open to students pursuing a certificate, technical diploma, or associate degree in fields such as construction, construction management, electrical technology, pipe fitting, plumbing and heating technology, and related disciplines at a construction trade school. Structures of Hospitality Excellence (SOHE) Scholarships are generously sponsored by leading industry partners: Continental Contractors, Architectural Concepts, and Delta Faucet, with scholars’ travel sponsored by ALIS DESIGN+. These scholarships reflect the industry’s shared commitment to fostering the next generation of talent.

“We applaud NEWH’s efforts in the creation of the SOHE awards and its meaningful contribution to the hospitality construction industry. These awards serve as a powerful platform for recognition and inspiration for the next generation of hospitality construction professionals. We are thrilled to host the award presentation at ALIS DESIGN+ next year and to support scholarships for deserving students pursuing careers in the field of construction,” Michelle Finn, Vice President, Design & Construction Products and Services, ALIS DESIGN+ by Northstar.

Through initiatives like the SOHE Award and its scholarship program, NEWH continues to lead the industry in recognizing and nurturing excellence in hospitality construction. To learn more about NEWH’s programs, events, and membership opportunities, visit www.newh.org.
