This continued achievement underscores CertainTeed’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing and the continued goal to divert waste from landfills

For the fourth consecutive year, CertainTeed, a leading North American manufacturer of sustainable building materials, has announced that several products in its residential roofing portfolio have earned the GreenCircle® Certification for Recycled Content. This continued achievement underscores CertainTeed’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing and the continued goal to divert waste from landfills.

Endorsed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the GreenCircle®certification is one of the most trusted and recognized environmental credentials that can be achieved by a company. Through an in-depth, third-party evaluation, GreenCircle® confirms that certified organizations are actively implementing robust and effective sustainability practices, reinforcing credibility and trust among suppliers, regulators, manufacturers and occupants alike.

In its most recent evaluation, GreenCircle®confirmed that CertainTeed’s manufacturing facilities in Fremont, CA; Jonesburg, MO; Portland, OR, and Shakopee, MN consistently incorporated pre-consumer recycled content into a range of product lines, significantly minimizing waste throughout the manufacturing process.

"More homeowners who prioritize sustainability are seeking eco-conscious products that don’t sacrifice durability,” said Amanda Boyer, Product Manager at CertainTeed Residential Roofing. “At CertainTeed, we’re committed to advancing environmental efforts that align with our mission to create beautiful and long-lasting, low-waste solutions. By integrating recycled content into our trusted roofing portfolio, we’re supporting a more circular economy and helping homeowners build with both strength and sustainability in mind.”

This certification reinforces the transparency and credibility of CertainTeed’s sustainability initiatives, offering third-partyvalidation of its material sourcing and manufacturing processes. Key findings from the GreenCircle® Certification evaluation period of October 2023-September 2024 include:

  • Over 4,298 tons of recycled material were used during production at the Jonesburg, MO facility, supporting over 60,000 tons of total product output
  • Landmark® ClimateFlex® AR joined CertainTeed’s growing portfolio of certified sustainable roofing products with its initial GreenCircle®certification in 2025
  • Across the certified facilities, CertainTeed used more than 27,000 tons of verified recycled material in production

“I am proud to recognize CertainTeed for their continued commitment to transparency and sustainability,” said Sara Risley, Certification Officer at GreenCircle® Certified. “Through a rigorous third-party evaluation, CertainTeed has successfully achieved certification for the use of recycled content in its products. We commend CertainTeed for their leadership in driving meaningful progress in the building materials industry."

This recertification comes on the heels of the announcement that a broad range of CertainTeed’s residential roofing products met the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) FORTIFIED Roof’s rigorous standards, ensuring resiliency against both everyday weather and extreme storms. Additionally, earlier this year, the brand’s entire residential roofing portfolio earned the Good Housekeeping Seal, further reinforcing the brand’s commitment to durability, quality, and reliability.
