AGMT Program Conducts Successful Testing During TEXpo

11 glaziers tested while conference attendees could witness the hands-on process

North America’s only third-party personnel credential for glaziers, the Architectural Glass and Metal Technician (AGMT) certification program conducted hands-on glazier testing on the show floor during the 2025 edition of Glass TEXpo held May 7-8, 2025 at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas. The event supported a growing demand for certification in Texas.

AGMT certification provides an independent assessment of a glazier’s fundamental knowledge, skills, and abilities through written and hands-on assessments. Glaziers must retest every four years to maintain certification.

AGMT’s testing event was coordinated to bring exposure and access to the program. To date, 2,081 glaziers have earned AGMT certification, representing 41 states and four Canadian provinces. Texas currently ranks second nationwide in the number of testing candidates for 2025; to date, 33 of 143 recently certified glaziers work in Texas. As demand for certification has increased, program administrators have continually sought ways to improve access.

“TEXpo was a tremendous success,” said AGMT Field Operations Manager Jason Simonette, who oversaw testing. “We met a lot of new contractors who had heard about AGMT who were able to see the process in person. The individuals who tested said it was fair, but challenging, setting the bar for the skills a glazier should have.”

Five participants came from ATX Glazing in Round Rock, Texas. “From a company standpoint, it elevates our quality of work and establishes us as an employer of choice – and it gives individuals a reason to take pride in themselves,” Owner Corey Jones explained. “It’s important for me to give people an opportunity to learn new things, prove their capabilities, and accomplish a challenge. The group trained together, traveled together, and tested together. It was like a teambuilding event.”

AGMT testing at TEXpo was sponsored by Frameless Hardware Company (FHC) and Specified Technologies, Inc. (STI) who provided materials and support to reduce certification costs for candidates.

STI covered 50 percent of testing costs for candidates. STI Curtainwall and Façade Specialist Aaron Alterman said, “STI truly believes in the mission of having high quality, certified technicians and companies to support the glazing industry. AGMT certified technicians adhere to a higher standard of workmanship.”

Sponsored by the Texas Glass Association, USGlass Magazine, and USGNN, TEXpo highlights education, innovation, and success to glazing industry stakeholders. AGMT and its sister credential for glazing contractors, the North American Contractor Certification (NACC), exhibited at TEXpo and NACC was an event sponsor.
