FitzGerald, a national architecture, interior design, and sustainability firm, announced that partner and technical director Timothy Blatner, CSI, CDT, is the recipient of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) Chicago Chapter’s first annual Alan Itzkowitz Mentor Award.

Established in 2022, the Alan Itzkowitz Mentor Award recognizes one individual who has made an outstanding commitment to being a positive influence and improving the life and career of others in the design and construction industry. The award is named for Chapter Fellow Alan Itzkowitz, whose career was built upon his interest in people, ethics, innovation, education and generosity. Nominees are evaluated on their ability to provide guidance, share expertise, and foster a comfortable but challenging work environment in which all members are empowered to participate.

“I am honored to be recognized by my colleagues and peers at CSI Chicago,” said Timothy. “This award not only speaks to my personal values but is also a credit to the culture of mentorship that FitzGerald fosters amongst all of its staff.” His colleagues at FitzGerald readily recognize the merit of this award for Timothy.  Always available and generous with his time, Timothy has cultivated a climate of learning and curiosity throughout FitzGerald.

Known in the industry as a “code and spec guru,” Timothy is responsible for document quality management, production and specification knowledge resources, maintaining and sharing knowledge of new and evolving construction materials, continuing education programming, and mentoring staff with project documentation and construction phase contract administration.

CSI Chicago formally recognized Timothy at the 2023 Chapter Awards Celebration on June 8, 2023.
