The Coil Coatings division of Sherwin-Williams has released its latest color forecast, FUSE, for architectural metal coatings. The report aims to inspire architects, product manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the coil and extrusion market over the next 3-5 years and beyond.
As an overarching theme, FUSE refers to the layered nature of great design. Inspired by architectural methods of drawing plans and writing specifications, FUSE analyzes the overlapping relationship between design processes and color selection. The report presents 18 colors in a range of special effects to inspire designers and manufacturers in their specifications, and ensure color and coatings are accounted for throughout the stages of design.
“Much like designers and manufacturers, FUSE is motivated by layers,” said Kiki Redhead, Global Color Materials Finish (CMF) & Trend Manager at Sherwin-Williams. “As creators, we have overlap between the elements of our lives and how we design. The FUSE forecast looks to the pieces that construct life and design, and answers with spectacular colors and effects that can be woven into every ambitious plan.”
FUSE is organized into three collections: Accountability-Centered Technology (ACT), Building Fulfilling Futures (BFF) and Chief Empathy Officer (CEO). The collections are inspired by technology, infrastructure and empathy, respectively, and tell stories of the intersecting connection of society and design. Each collection presents six colors as well as a special effects highlight.
Special effects have been a major component of the coil coatings market for decades. As coating capabilities have expanded, this offering has likewise grown in demand. Sherwin-Williams Coil Coatings is proud to offer a variety of special effects including gloss, mica/metallic, prints, color-shifting technology, texture, sparkle and more. The FUSE forecast enforces the importance of these offerings in supporting the unique visions of architects, product manufacturers and OEMs.
The Coil Coatings team has translated the technologies, colors and effects of FUSE based on market research and major societal catalysts such as sustainability, economy, humanity and equality. The offering is informed by Sherwin-Williams color and coating experts, leveraging years of research and development to present colors and effects intended to inspire architectural and building product design.
