East Coast Lightning Equipment, Inc. (ECLE) announced it has relocated its manufacturing operations to a new 26,000-square-foot facility in Torrington, Conn.

The company’s foundry operations will remain in Winsted, while cable braiding, stamping, lathes, machining and assembly work will be performed in Torrington. The move will allow all operations to expand and be completed more efficiently.

“We outgrew the Winsted location years ago, but it took some time to find an appropriate site,” says Jennifer Morgan, co-owner of East Coast Lightning Equipment. “The City of Torrington has been very welcoming and even helped connect us with the Economic Development folks at the state level to take advantage of some of the state’s pro-manufacturing tax incentives. We spent about six months updating the building to meet our needs.”

Morgan says renovations included reducing the office space and adding a 20-person training room. “We added an additional loading door to accommodate shipping volume,” she said. “We also added an employee locker room and upgraded the employee lunch room to give it a café-like feel.”

Morgan says the layout of the new facility allows for significant improvements in product flow and efficiency. To make the most of the opportunity, ECLE has partnered with ConnStep, a Connecticut-based consulting group focused on manufacturing, to provide employees with a series of training programs on lean manufacturing, process mapping and employee management this spring.

“We are very excited about the move into the new building,” says Morgan. “Having more room will help us work more safely and efficiently, while allowing us to respond to orders faster. Along with our new website at www.ecle.biz, we are hitting the ground running in 2023.”

The new facility is located at 187 Commercial Blvd, Torrington, CT 06790.
