Huntsman Building Solutions to Showcase Wall Assembly Design Solutions for at AIA 2022

2.jpg
June 13, 2022

Huntsman Building Solutions, a global leader in high performance, sustainable building envelope solutions, today announced it will showcase three of its innovative wall assembly design solutions at the AIA Conference on Architecture 2022 on June 23 and 24. The three wall assembly solutions are designed specifically for architects and builders and include: W-Wall™, a fire-safe load-bearing wall assembly utilized for partition walls between attached multifamily and townhome units; D-Max Wall™, an assembly and continuous insulation solution which allows spray polyurethane foam insulation to be installed from the interior; and X-Wall™ System, an assembly design solution which allows spray foam insulation to be installed completely from the exterior.

The assemblies will be showcased June 23 and 24 in the Huntsman Building Solutions booth #511 in the convention’s exhibit hall. All three of the wall assembly design solutions to be featured incorporate high-performance spray polyurethane foam.

“Each of these wall assembly design solutions are intended to provide innovative, energy efficient solutions to architects looking to optimize the building envelope,” says Simon Baker, president with Huntsman Building Solutions. “While each offers its own performance benefits, all three capitalize on spray polyurethane foam’s air sealing capabilities.”

W-Wall is the first two-hour fire rated load-bearing, partition wall assembly tested and approved for use with open cell spray foam. Huntsman Building Solutions’ open cell spray foam insulation solutions have been certified for use with the assembly, providing sustainable sound attenuation, air sealing and energy efficiency capabilities as part of the assembly solution. The assembly design meaningfully reduces construction and labor costs and provides comfort and ease-of-mind to residents living on either side of it.

D-Max Wall is an assembly and continuous insulation solution which allows closed cell spray polyurethane foam insulation to be installed from the interior while managing thermal bridging of the studs and structure. The assembly utilizes Huntsman Building Solutions’ HEATLOK HFO Pro closed cell spray foam insulation, which provides three key functions, acting as insulation, air barrier and vapor barrier in a single product application. The wall assembly eliminates construction delays caused by inclement weather conditions, allowing contractors to continue installation during cold winter months.

X-Wall System is an assembly design solution which allows closed cell spray foam insulation to be installed completely from the exterior. The assembly cuts the thermal bridge of the structure and provides all of the required properties of a high-performance building envelope using a single product (closed cell spray foam), which functions as an all-in-one insulation, air barrier, vapor retarder, and water resistive barrier. X-Wall System is an answer to the ever-increasing requirements for continuous insulation (CI), which have led to many buildings now being insulated on the exterior. The continuous insulation application of X-Wall System enables better R-value and U-factor performance, as the thermal bridges are reduced. Steel studs can then be thinner and empty, leaving room for electrical systems.
