The Metal Construction Association (MCA) awarded Chairman’s Awards to several companies for their roles in the creation of buildings that use metal in innovative ways.

The winning building projects were chosen by an independent panel of prominent architects: Christina Bazelmans of Lamoureux Pagano Associates, Steven G. Blye of Legat Associates, and Yen Ong of 5G Studio Collaborative. The judges selected winners based on overall appearance, the innovative use of metal in construction, and the significance of metal in achieving the project’s objectives.

“All of these are incredible examples of artistic expression and how to use metal to create beautiful and sustainable buildings,” Bazelmans said. “When you want to show what metal construction is capable of, these are the pinnacle.”

Chairman’s Award recipients are selected annually from projects submitted to the Chairman’s Award competition and Metal Architecture magazine’s annual Design Awards Program. For consideration, an MCA member company must have made a significant contribution to the project’s construction.

Entries were collected in judged in late 2020, and winners were announced at the February 3, 2021, Awards Presentation during MCA’s Winter Meeting. The winning projects are detailed in the following pages.
