Northwest industrial chic recently came to Redmond, Wash., Seattle’s high-tech eastside suburb, in the newly opened Archer Hotel. The boutique hotel’s distinct Northwest feel centers around the selection of Citadel Architectural Product’s Envelope 2000 metal composite material (MCM) Reveal (RV) system.
“The metal provides a unique, modern industrial chic appearance, which was our goal,” says Roger Brown, AIA, LEED AP, senior vice president and director of design for LK Architecture Inc., Wichita, Kan. “We have used the same metal panels at Archer Hotels in Napa (Calif.), Austin (Texas) and Burlington (Mass.).”
AM Exteriors LLC, Renton, Wash., installed 9,216 square feet of Envelope 2000 RV in an Heirloom Cherry color. The upper levels of the hotel also feature column wraps using outside corners of the MCM. Envelope 2000 is a 4-mm-thick MCM with a durable, 0.105-inch thermoset phenolic resin core that provides an ultra-smooth substrate for the aluminum skin. RV is a field-assembled system that uses one-piece extruded aluminum moldings for attachment. The material was sold by Pacific Architectural Products, Clackamas, Wash.
This is the first time AM Exteriors has worked with Citadel panels. Jason Lange, COO of AM Exteriors, notes: “Field fabrication was relatively easy, and the panels installed quickly compared to other materials we have worked with.”
Archer Hotel Redmond is a seven-story building with 160 rooms. Archer Hotel—owned, developed and operated by LodgeWorks Partners, L.P.—believes that each hotel should feel like local residences with a distinct nod to the destination they call home. The Northwest industrial chic theme is expressed in the interior with lofty 18-foot-high ceilings, floating wood ceilings, and a house art collection created by local and regional artists. Envelope 2000 makes the same statement on the exterior, balanced with other natural materials.
“The metal panel’s strong horizontal lines make a strong industrial statement in the design,” Brown says. “The reflectivity of the metal really stand out against other materials.”
