The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is celebrating 50 years of its MasterSpec product today during the AIA Conference on Architecture 2019 (A’19) in Las Vegas.
“AIA has been integral to the practice of architecture since its founding in 1857,” said AIA EVP/Chief Executive Officer Robert Ivy, FAIA. “For the past five decades, MasterSpec has been a prime example of how AIA helps architects protect the health, safety and welfare of the public in their everyday practice.”
Since its launch in 1969, MasterSpec has evolved to stay current with building trends and technology advancements while also meeting the needs of architects and professionals in the architecture, engineering and construction community. This has been done in part through AIA forging new partnerships while addressing critical issues such as sustainability, software developments and material advancements.
Currently, AIA collaborates with Deltek + Avitru—which uses a team of AEC knowledge experts—to provide comprehensive architect product selection support and guidance for every step of the construction documentation process. Through the partnership, Deltek + Avitru also offer objective content and innovative software tools.
“Deltek is excited about the opportunity to work with AIA to support and innovate on an industry-leading tool,” said Kevin Plexico, SVP of Information Services at Deltek. “MasterSpec fits into our mission of providing AEC professionals the best project-based tools and provides a unique opportunity for architects to not only improve their construction documentation but collaborate on a deliverable and assist in risk mitigation.”
Currently, MasterSpec allows architects to build and customize specifications and maintain documentation. The software employs up-to-date content composed of more than 900 sections, which are organized into practice-specific and specialized libraries and online tools, including SpecBuilder Cloud and e-SPECS. Both allow for fluid collaboration with team members and integration with BIM software. Overall, MasterSpec® has 11 core libraries to choose from, including Architectural, Building A/E, Comprehensive, Commissioning, Electrical + Communication, Historic Preservation, Landscape, Mechanical, Interiors, Structural, and Site/Civil. Additionally, Deltek + Avitru also offers SpecText, a complementary specification library geared specifically for infrastructure, civil, water and wastewater projects.
