USGBC Announces 2019 Greenbuild Europe Leadership Awards

Breaking News 4
March 20, 2019

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) announced adidas and Knauf Insulation as the recipients of the 2019 Greenbuild Europe Leadership Awards. The Leadership Awards recognize outstanding individuals and organizations at the forefront of the green building movement. The recipients were announced today at USGBC’s Greenbuild Europe conference taking place in Amsterdam at the Mövenpick Hotel.

“Both adidas and Knauf have demonstrated courage and purposeful intent – tirelessly championing green building, pushing to transform the environment and helping to improve the quality of life for people in their communities,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO, of USGBC and Green Business Certification, Inc. (GBCI). “With these types of leaders, I know our vision of green buildings for all within this generation can become a reality. This award recognizes their outstanding contributions to protecting the environment – both for people today and for future generations.”

adidas is being recognized for its outstanding contributions to protecting the environment including the company’s commitment to LEED and reducing its carbon footprint. Adidas’s progressive sustainability roadmap and campaign “Sport Needs a Space,” includes a holistic approach that looks at spaces where sport is made (all places where products are created, designed, manufactured and shipped), sold (own retail, wholesale and e-commerce) and played (from the indoor court to the outdoor pitch all over the world).

As one of the world’s largest manufacturers of sustainable insulation products and solutions, Knauf Insulation is being recognized for providing innovative solutions that both reduce energy consumption and save resources. Knauf sets an outstanding example for the international green construction industry through its commitment to LEED and other green building practices and its aggressive corporate social responsibility commitment.

USGBC’s 12,000 national member organizations, its more than 201,000 global LEED professional credential holders and its network of local leaders across the United States and throughout the world are at the heart of its mission of market transformation through the LEED green building program. Currently, there are more than 96,000 commercial projects participating in LEED, comprising more than 20.7 billion square feet of construction space in all 50 states and 167 countries and territories.

Founded in 2002, Greenbuild brings together industry leaders, experts and frontline professionals dedicated to sustainable building, making the event the ideal space to learn about groundbreaking green building products, services and technologies. Greenbuild Europe offers access to inspirational speakers, invaluable networking opportunities, industry showcases and sessions on the LEED green building rating system. Sessions address a variety of important topics, from market transformation to health and well-being to codes and certification systems. Attendees can earn continuing education hours at many of the educational sessions.

USGBC is the presenting organization for Greenbuild, the world’s largest green building conference platform. Greenbuild will take place in five cities worldwide in 2019, including Mexico City, Atlanta, Shanghai and Mumbai, in addition to Amsterdam. Greenbuild Europe is the first event of the year, bringing together business leaders with a focus on creating a more sustainable built environment and a better quality of life for all.
