October 9, 2018

Guardian Glass is now producing jumbo coated glass in North America. The company recently completed all testing on its jumbo coater in Carleton, Michigan and started coating its float glass with Guardian SunGuard SuperNeutral 68 HT coating.

This jumbo coater is Guardian’s 12th globally and the company’s first in North America.

“We’re pleased to announce that the first project that will feature glass from the new jumbo coater is One Campus Martius, in Detroit, just miles from Guardian’s plant in Carleton, Michigan,”says Rick Zoulek, vice president – Americas, Guardian Glass. “Our partnership with Cristacurva on this project is just the start of a new level of service: We’re bringing value to our customers by offering much larger sizes of coated glass, while helping architects achieve their design vision.”

“Jumbo coated glass from Guardian Glass enables us to utilize Cristacurva’s full fabrication capabilities to make the finished insulating glass units,” adds Javier Sánchez-Gil, chief operating officer at independent Guardian Select fabricator Cristacurva. “We’re proud to partner with Guardian on One Campus Martius.”

One Campus Martius will utilize about 80,000 square feet of SunGuard SuperNeutral 68 HT coating on 8 mm clear jumbo glass with units up to 180” high, both flat and curved. The project is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2019.

Guardian Glass’ growth is helping customers while also helping to contribute to Detroit’s momentum: The Campus Martius project is adding more than 300,000 square feet of critically needed office space in the city.

Customers can order jumbo Guardian Glass products in standard 130” x 204” size, as well as special orders at 130” x 240”. The jumbo glass lites will be available in 6, 8, 10 and 12 mm thicknesses, with coatings available on clear, tinted and low-iron float glass substrates.

The Guardian SunGuard glass product line for commercial applications offers varying levels of light transmission with excellent solar control to save energy. A wide variety of colors and performance levels are available. SunGuard glass products provide innovative, leading solutions for appearance and energy efficiency, and are available through an international network of independent Guardian Select fabricators.
