Scott Butler Joins EYP As Chief Operating Officer

breaking news1
January 15, 2018

EYP Inc., a national leader in sustainability and comprehensive high-performance building design, announced today that Scott Butler has joined the firm as Chief Operating Officer. In this role, Butler is responsible for the firm’s overall operations. He leads the advancement of project delivery system technology, as well as the professional development of more than 500 staff members across 15 offices in the United States and Europe.

Butler was a natural choice based on his broad range of senior management experience, strong record of industry success and cultural fit to EYP. Butler comes to EYP with more than 30 years of experience in the architecture and engineering profession, as well as 15 years in firm-wide leadership positions. In addition, he holds a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from Penn State University.

For the past six years, Butler served as Director of International Operations at HDR, overseeing 800 employees in 22 offices, with annual revenue of $120 million. Prior to merging with HDR, Butler was the CEO of CUH2A, an architecture and engineering firm focused on science and technology clients. At both HDR and CUH2A, Butler was instrumental in creating operational excellence that supported the companies’ commitments to both clients and staff during business growth. Additionally, he managed key acquisitions and launched first-to-market technologies to differentiate and enhance client service.

In addition to his many professional accomplishments, Butler will also bring his passion for continuing education, pro bono service and community engagement to EYP. He is actively involved in many charitable organizations, particularly ones focused on empowering disadvantaged youth. Through Design for Others (D4O), he created and led pro bono design initiatives enabling professional architects and engineers to lend their time and expertise on healthcare and education projects in underdeveloped regions around the world. Butler is also engaged in his local North Philadelphia community through participation in the United Way Big Brother Youth Mentoring Program, more than a dozen college access initiatives at local high schools, and an annual charity basketball tournament raising money for college scholarships.

“I was drawn to EYP because of its impressive design profile, its commitment to innovation, and its distinctly differentiated place in the marketplace,” said Butler. “I am delighted to be joining EYP, and I look forward to working with our multitalented professionals in each market sector and office location to further support each other, our clients and our communities.”

“With his intellectual curiosity and commitment to continuous company-wide improvement, the addition of Scott as our COO will create tremendous momentum within EYP as we begin 2018,” said Tom Birdsey, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, President and CEO of EYP, Inc. “We are proud to welcome Scott as a member of our newly aligned leadership team, and we are confident this is the next step in EYP’s journey to becoming the world’s top architecture and engineering firm for high-performance building design.”
