Alahe Aldo Joins Carrier Johnson

Carrier Johnson
May 5, 2017

The firm Carrier Johnson + CULTURE, a leading global provider of architecture, interior design and branding, has announced an addition to its leadership team. Alahe Aldo, AIA, LEED AP, has just joined the firm as Director of Higher Education, bringing to the new post her extensive knowledge of campus planning as well as commercial and workplace architecture. With 30-plus years of experience in the field, Aldo has worked extensively with campuses across the northeastern United States, including at Harvard University, MIT, and Boston College.

Reflecting her diversified background, Aldo also brings to the San Diego firm a wide-ranging national and international portfolio of award-winning work encompassing all phases of design and delivery of educational, commercial and mixed-use projects. She has been active with the Boston Society of Architects, the U.S. Green Building Council, and Commercial Real Estate Women.

Over the last decade, Aldo has focused on creating exceptional academic spaces, with varied projects exemplifying the cutting edge of 21st-century
trends in campus life and education delivery. Most notable have been live-learn residence halls as well as flexible teaching spaces supporting emerging
technology and pedagogical innovation throughout the Northeast, including Harvard, Lesley University, MIT, Northeastern University and Southern New Hampshire University.

“Alahe’s expertise in campus planning and her knowledge of new directions in learning will expand and complement Carrier Johnson + CULTURE’s deep portfolio of campus life and learning environments,“ says Michael Johnson, AIA, the firm’s design principal. “With her strong commitment to improving the quality of educational environments and her ease with complex institutional initiatives, Alahe will help us serve our clients better than ever.”

“Passionate and visionary yet with a practical, seasoned approach, Aldo builds upon a diverse resume of not only impressive technical skills, but also a welcome managerial style,” adds Vincent Mudd, managing principal. “Her projects and network in higher education reflect a dedication to improving campus life for students.” Notable projects include Boston College’s Center for Teaching Excellence, a renovation of Colby College’s Roberts Union Hall, and two projects for Harvard University’s Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.

In her role as Director of Higher Education, Aldo will lead university and college projects for a variety of clients. “I’m thrilled to begin working with Carrier Johnson + CULTURE and their talented architects and designers,” says Aldo. “With their close-knit client relationships and exceptional design processes, it’s very satisfying to be part of the team.”

Aldo studied architecture at the University of Kansas and more recently has established affiliations and earned credentials with the American Institute of Architects, the U.S. Green Building Council and SCUP, the Society for College and University Planning. She has won multiple architecture and design awards such as the Library & Media Center Design Awards for the John D. Runkle School in Brookline, Mass., and honors from American School & University for her educational interiors work and from School Planning & Management Magazine for general design excellence.
