Hurricane Katrina hit Biloxi, Mississippi in the summer of 2005, destroying nearly all the infrastructure on the coast, including the Palace Casino Resort. Ten years later, investments in the area have revitalized the shoreline and brought the city back to life.

In 2011, the Palace Casino Resort underwent a $50 million expansion and renovation led by the Cuningham Group Architects. The group set out to not only rejuvenate the existing 46,000 square-foot property, but also construct a new 64,000 square-foot addition.

Keeping budget and the coastal location in mind, architects enlisted CENTRIA to provide metal panels for the exterior of the building. Metal is a low-maintenance building material that is also extremely durable, a benefit not to be overlooked on the Gulf Coast. Adding to the durability and overall aesthetic, 18,664 square-feet of CENTRIA Formawall Dimension Series insulated metal paneling and 5,286 square-feet of Concept Series CS-660 single-skin panels were finished in Valspar’s flagship Fluropon coating in Off White. Installed by F.L. Crane & Sons, the Fluropon-finished panels offer a clean and crisp look to the luxurious casino.

Valspar’s Fluropon coating is known for its resistance to ultraviolet rays and protection against heat and humidity, making it an ideal choice for the Palace Casino Resort. Providing an added layer of durability to the metal panels, Fluropon also protects against dirt and stains, and corrosive salt spray. The coating ensures the casino will be able to stand up to the many weather conditions that befall the Mississippi gulf coast while also maintaining a high-class luster.

Once left ravaged by one of the most devastating hurricanes in memory, the Place Casino Resort now stands as a testament to coastal community’s resolve to overcome and rebuild.
