Savannah, Ga. architect Neil Dawson, Principle at Dawson Architects, has been voted in as the new President Elect of AIA Georgia, a chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

“This is a very exciting time to be a part of the AIA Georgia leadership team,” Dawson stated. “I look forward to promoting the strategic vision for AIA Georgia, being an active participant in attracting new architects to our chapter, and helping to continue to increase the value of AIA Georgia.”

AIA Georgia is divided into seven local Chapters and serves as the voice of architecture throughout the state. As the newly elected President-Elect, Dawson will work with both the President and Past President as needed, to actively engage in public outreach, government relations, and community service.

Dawson assumed his role January 1, 2016 and will serve as President-Elect for the first year of his three-year term. The following year he will serve as President rounding out his third and final year serving as Past President.

“Mr. Dawson brings experience, enthusiasm, and breadth of knowledge to AIA Georgia. In particular, his experience with complex preservation and his passion for our industry will make him a tremendous asset,” said David Southerland, Executive Director, AIA Georgia. “I look forward to working with Neil and our entire board in the coming years to continue to improve the quality of our built environment.”

With almost 30 years of experience, Dawson has been involved with the planning, design, and construction of numerous award-winning projects throughout coastal Georgia and the Southeast. Dawson’s career has focused on historic preservation and complex urban renovations with significant technology and sustainability requirements. He earned his Master of Architecture as well as a Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois.
