SKA Consulting Engineers Inc., is pleased to announce the addition of 41-year structural, civil, and environmental engineering veteran, Robert “Rick” Broadhead, P.E, Birmingham branch manager and senior project manager. Rick’s role commences immediately, serving as the owner/client point of contact for all Birmingham-area projects, including those within a 500-mile radius.

A 40-year Birmingham resident, the majority of Rick’s experience has been based in or from the Birmingham, Ala., region. Rick’s structural and civil design experience includes numerous commercial, industrial and government facilities in the southeastern United States and several foreign countries since 1974.

Project types include the design of structural systems from the foundation up using concrete, steel, masonry, and wood. Foundation systems included spread footings, piles, caissons, mats and earth anchors.

Most of his designs have been in the Birmingham region, where he has served as lead structural engineer on several projects for the University of Alabama, University of Alabama in Birmingham, Miles College, Tuskegee University (including two dormitories, two academic buildings, and an aquatic center, among others), a stadium for Clay Chalkville High School, a post-tensioned parking deck for South Central Bell Alabama Headquarters, and multiple other industrial, office, parking, educational, housing and healthcare structures.

Most recently, Rick served as project manager for the International Relief and Development organization in Kabul, Afghanistan. Prior roles consist of engineering, inspections, and project management for public and private organizations across Alabama, the United States, Afghanistan, and Germany, including serving as an Engineering Officer in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves.

Rick is a registered professional engineer in Alabama and Mississippi and holds a Master of Business Administration from the Florida Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University.
