New Hire Will Expand DBS Building Envelope Opportunities

August 28, 2013

CLEVELAND — DBS Inc., a Garland Industries company, recently hired Wendy Sellers to represent its portfolio of building envelope solutions throughout the EasternDBS Wendy Sellers United States. DBS is the only design-build firm in North America delivering customized integrations of commercial-grade materials and best-practice installation services for exterior building envelopes under a single warranty. With a core competency of complex waterproofing projects, DBS combines a performance-driven work ethic with field-proven processes to deliver quality installations on time and in budget.

Sellers has 15 years experience in the construction and construction materials industries, including seven years developing and managing her own design-build construction organization. She has a General Contracting License, as well as Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) certifications in her home state of South Carolina. Sellers earned her Bachelor of Science from Southern Wesleyan University in 2004, with Masters Preparation in business administration.

In all her previous positions, Sellers was the first female to take on roles traditionally dominated by males. She said, “Every one of my positions has been a trail-blazing opportunity. In my experience, that has meant you have to work harder to prove your competence. But I love the construction business. How many people get to work in an industry where, when you are done, you can say, ‘Look. I helped build that.’ I want every customer I work with to feel the same pride I feel in completing a successful project.”

In her new capacity with DBS, Sellers will report to general manager Al Orlacchio, who said, “No other design-build organization provides single-source accountability for the performance outcomes of such a wide range of quality construction materials as DBS. Wendy is a perfect fit for this organization. She understands the challenges that general contractors and building owners are facing in today’s economic environment. Wendy has the deep industry experience you need to develop and sustain trusting relationships with customers whose applications are challenging and complex.”

In addition to selling integrated suites of waterproofing materials for commercial building envelopes, Sellers will be representing DBS’ comprehensive selection of engineering, design and long-term support services, including 24/7 leak response, comprehensive energy audits, and storm and disaster protection programs.

Sellers lives in Blythewood, S.C., with her husband, Jason, and two daughters, Sophia Grace and Hanna Jane. Raised in Ohio, she has lived in South Carolina since 1997. She serves as chairman of the membership committee for the CREW network, an organization dedicated to influencing the success of the commercial real estate industry by advancing the achievements of women. She is also a member of the Committee of 100/SC Alliance Organization, the Economic Development Councils of Lancaster and Lexington Counties and the Southern Economic Development Council. A charter member of the New Kirk Presbyterian Church, Sellers and her family currently worship with the Spring Valley Presbyterian congregation in Columbia, S.C.
