GAF Reaches Historic TPO Milestone

June 14, 2011
GAF announced the production of its one billionth square foot of EverGuard Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) single ply roofing membrane.

WAYNE, N.J. – GAF announced the production of its one billionth square foot of EverGuard Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) single ply roofing membrane.

TPO roofing, which offers a combination of durability, performance, and reflectivity, is known for its energy saving properties.

The EverGuard TPO roofing line includes a wide range of products that carry ENERGY STAR and Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) designations.

Reflective or ‘cool’ roofing remains a growth segment of the construction marketplace, and recent decisions by several government agencies – including the U.S. Navy – to require reflective roofing on all future projects, are expected to support the expansion of the cool roofing marketplace. Demand for EverGuard TPO single-ply roofing continues to grow and GAF recently introduced EverGuard Extreme TPO, engineered to provide even higher solar reflectivity than standard TPO membranes, as well as extremely high UV and thermal resistance. These combined characteristics produce a single-ply membrane suitable for the most demanding solar installations, as well as any other high heat or solar loading applications.

The ‘greening’ of building codes, as well as the growing influence of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) green building rating system has been additional drivers in the growth of the cool roofing marketplace.

GAF introduced the EverGuard reflective TPO product line at about the same time that the LEED rating system program was introduced in 1999.

Coincidentally, LEED recently announced a similar milestone, with one billion square feet under certification. Despite a severe economic downturn in 2008 and 2009, both EverGuard TPO and LEED certification have enjoyed a similar growth curve.
