IB Roof Systems announced that it has successfully become a carbon neutral company for the 2008 calendar year after completing significant strides towards delivering a truly green product.

“I believe that we are the first roofing manufacturer to actually say that we have achieved carbon neutral status,” said Jason Stanley, vice president of sales. “It's exciting to know that not only has our PVC membrane endured for over 30 years, but it has also helped to further reduce carbon emissions by the high reflectivity properties it possesses.”

By hiring an environmental consultant to evaluate their company's carbon emissions for the 2008 calendar year, a report was generated rolling out the various strategies for IB to become carbon neutral.

The report illustrated that IB Roof Systems white membrane helps reduce carbon emissions because of its high reflectivity characteristics. In addition, because of IB Roof Systems carbon neutral status, the embodied emissions of manufacturing the membrane, shipping and installation can be negated as quickly as 2 years. This means that after the second year IB Roof Systems white membrane would comprise a carbon negative status every year for the remaining life of the system.

Reaching this status was aided by IB Roof Systems’ already green practices like their robust recycling program for wood, metal, cardboard and any additional waste from production of accessories. IB Roof Systems is also one of only a few manufacturers that have a reclamation program in place for PVC roof replacement.

With this foundation established, IB Roof Systems and its products have become a leader in environmental single-ply roofing, which places IB Roof Systems in the forefront to support established and emerging sustainable roofing technologies. For more information, visitwww.ibroof.com.
