Knauf Insulation Earthwool™ 1000º Pipe Insulation with ASJ+ Recognized for Sustainability

January 27, 2011
Knauf Insulation North America received an award for Earthwool™ 1000º Pipe Insulation with ASJ+, a product that stands apart for its breakthrough sustainability performance and outstanding looks.

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – Knauf Insulation North America received an award for Earthwool™ 1000º Pipe Insulation with ASJ+, a product that stands apart for its breakthrough sustainability performance and outstanding looks.

“This product is the ultimate solution for both contractors and engineers,” said Doug Bolen, Marketing Manager at Knauf Insulation. “Earthwool 1000º Pipe Insulation with ASJ+ and ECOSE Technology is a genuinely sustainable and dependable insulation product that helps engineers achieve LEED credits in many ways. Additionally, the enhanced all-service jacket (ASJ+) will exceed performance expectations. Contractors are expressing appreciation for the durability and exceptional finished appearance.”

The AHR Expo and its co-sponsors, ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) and AHRI (The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute), recognize Knauf Insulation Earthwool 1000º Pipe Insulation with ASJ+ with an Honorable Mention in the Green Building Category of the 2011 AHR Expo Innovation Awards Competition. A panel of industry professionals, found Earthwool 1000º Pipe Insulation with ASJ+ worthy for its value, impact and application.

Earthwool 1000º Pipe Insulation is manufactured from sand, one of the world’s most abundant and renewable resources; a minimum of 40 percent post-consumer recycled bottle glass; and ECOSE® Technology, a revolutionary, more sustainable binder. ECOSE Technology is based on renewable bio-based materials and contains no phenol, formaldehyde, acrylics or artificial colors.

Earthwool 1000° Pipe Insulation features ASJ+, Knauf Insulation’s highest standard of all service jacketing. ASJ+ is composed of aluminum foil, reinforced with a glass scrim, bonded to a kraft paper interleaving with an outer film layer, leaving no paper exposed. The benefits of ASJ+ include an exceptional finished appearance, cleanability, and durability. It maintains a professional finish because it resists wrinkling, dimpling and is easy to clean with a wet cloth and soapy water. ASJ+ offers 85 percent greater puncture resistance (Mullen Burst Test) than traditional ASJ. Additionally, because ASJ+ is more resistant to UV and moisture, it is less susceptible to physical degradation and discoloration.

Achieving UL Classified labeling, Earthwool Pipe Insulation with ASJ+ does its part to alleviate building occupant safety concerns. Furthermore, Earthwool 1000° Pipe Insulation with ASJ+ is GREENGUARD For Children and SchoolsSM certified for indoor air quality excellence.

Knauf Insulation Earthwool 1000º Pipe Insulation is used to insulate iron and copper piping in industrial applications and in commercial and institutional buildings. It offers excellent resistance to heat loss or gain, which saves energy and lowers operating costs. Earthwool 1000º Pipe Insulation is suitable for hot, cold, concealed and exposed piping systems operating at temperatures from 0 degrees to 1000 degree Fahrenheit.
