VALLEY FORGE, Pa. - CertaSpec - CertainTeed’s comprehensive online roofing specification writing tool - recently received updates to include important LEED criteria. CertaSpec allows users to quickly write accurate steep- and low-slope roofing specifications for job submittal packages and can be accessed by visitingwww.certainteed.com/certaspec.

The new CertaSpec Version 2.0 features information on such LEED requirements as recycled content percentages for roofing products and locally sourced material in regards to project location.

“The additional LEED information available in the new version of CertaSpec will be a huge benefit,” said J.R. Roach of CertainTeed Roofing, who managed the development of CertaSpec. “After answering a few predefined questions, the program filters through the products available and lists recycled content in relation to job and plant location. This is an advantage to architects and roofing consultants who are trying to use locally sourced products and build LEED certified projects.”

Similar to the previous CertaSpec version, on-screen instructions pop up to guide users through the specification process. Live updates are routinely made, keeping the software current and accurate. CertaSpec also has an updated web interface, and once the user selects criteria, narrows the specs and finalizes the submittal package materials, the information can be printed or saved electronically. Roofing professionals and specifiers can obtain the CertaSpec software for free by contacting their local CertainTeed sales representative.

Many CertainTeed roofing products are manufactured with up to 89 percent pre- and post-consumer recycled content overall. Through the use of this recycled content in the manufacturing of its roofing products, CertainTeed is able to divert more than 250,000 tons per year of slag, stone granule, corrugated mixed paper and sludge from landfills.

In addition, CertainTeed recycles nearly 90 percent of its roofing production waste into asphalt materials for road construction and integrates recycled content into many of its packaging materials, including corrugated rolls and Kraft paper. For more information, visitwww.certainteed.com.
