LRS Architects announced the design of the Oregon Liquor Cannabis Commission’s (OLCC) new 347,000-square-foot distilled spirits distribution center, which recently celebrated its groundbreaking in April 2025. Located in Canby, the distilled spirits distribution center will replace OLCC’s current warehouse in nearby Milwaukie, which has been in operation for 70 years and no longer has the capacity to keep pace with the state’s distilled spirits market. The OLCC oversees the entire distribution and sale of all distilled spirits in the state, apart from wine and beer.
To meet the complex functional needs of this unique project, the LRS design team drew on a robust background in the design of industrial warehouses and materials storage and its long history of completing large-scale government projects.
“It was very important to us to bring a human-focus to our design for the interiors of the warehouse and office space. We studied how employees would experience and move around the space to perform their work, considering how to help people in demanding jobs be productive and happy at work,” said Amalia Mohr, Principal and Senior Interior Designer at LRS Architects. “We also considered how the product gets tracked and journeys through the facility, from the intricate material handling system, to the trucks, and eventually to businesses across the state.”
The facility is designed as a warehouse with attached supporting offices. In addition to office spaces, the warehouse will feature a staff lounge, maintenance shop space, and an advanced material handling system. The facility will also offer a large break room with an outdoor space designed for staff in demanding physical and technical jobs to relax, rejuvenate, and have regular access to fresh air and daylight. The new warehouse is designed to significantly expand current capacity, streamline operations, and improve efficiency for businesses and consumers across the state, while providing flexibility to allow the OLCC to expand or contract over time to meet evolving needs.
LRS Architects' team of local project partners at the OLCC warehouse include general contractor JE Dunn Construction, VLMK Engineering + Design, Interface Engineering, Otten + Associates Landscape Architecture, and Cumming Group.
The distilled spirits distribution center is projected to finish construction in June 2026 and be fully operational by August 2026.
