Blue River Coatings Names Mike McKernan CEO
McKernan brings more than 23 years of experience in the coatings industry, most recently serving in senior leadership roles at PPG

Blue River Coatings, a manufacturer of high-performance coating solutions, has appointed Mike McKernan as Chief Executive Officer.
McKernan brings more than 23 years of experience in the coatings industry, most recently serving in senior leadership roles at PPG. Over the course of his career, he held positions spanning sales, operations, and executive management, beginning as a sales associate in Omaha, Nebraska, and advancing to Vice President of the West Zone. In that role, he led sales and operations across 20 states with full P&L responsibility for business units generating up to $400 million in annual revenue.
McKernan was drawn to Blue River Coatings by the company’s strong, differentiated product portfolio and its entrepreneurial operating model.
“Blue River has an impressive lineup of proven products, many of which I’ve worked with throughout my career,” McKernan said. “What stood out to me was the opportunity to lead a focused, growth-oriented organization alongside a leadership team that’s deeply committed to its people and customers.”
As CEO, McKernan will focus on enhancing operational performance while supporting strategic growth initiatives. His priorities include improving production efficiency and output, expanding the company’s sales organization and distribution footprint, and advancing product expansion in targeted domestic and international markets.
With a leadership philosophy rooted in a people-first approach, McKernan emphasizes employee development, empowerment, and trust as key drivers of long-term success.
