Structure Cleaning and Coating Named Country's First Pro-X Certified Contractor for APV eCoolRoof

March 3, 2011
AKRON, Ohio – Patrick Murrell and his company, Structure Cleaning and Coating, have the distinction of being named the nation’s first Pro-X Certified Contractor for APV eCoolRoof.

AKRON, Ohio – Patrick Murrell and his company, Structure Cleaning and Coating, have the distinction of being named the nation’s first Pro-X Certified Contractor for APV eCoolRoof. The unique cool roof coating system was recently introduced by APV Engineered Coatings and includes a Kynar Aquatec resin-based topcoat and an elastomeric acrylic basecoat. Working together, the two products can provide up to a 63 percent increase in life cycle energy savings for a structure.

“Patrick and his company are now offering the field-applied APV eCoolRoof product as an option for commercial structures,” said Michael Couchie, vice president of sales for APV Engineered Coatings. “This product has been engineered to significantly increase the emissivity and total solar reflectance properties of a roof’s surface and sustain it for a minimum of 10 years. The product works exceptionally well in high-temperature areas such as Florida.” Research conducted by APV shows that when the eCoolRoof topcoat is applied over the eCoolRoof basecoat, the sun’s rays are prevented from entering the structure and the roof is protected against harsh weather environments over a life cycle of 20 years. This means that the eCoolRoof product can reduce the energy used from cooling systems and extend the life of a roof twice as long as traditional roof coatings.

The eco-friendly APV eCoolRoof has a low VOC content and resists ultraviolet (UV) ray degradation, chalking, water pickup, dirt pickup, staining, chemicals and corrosion, algae and fungal growth along with abrasion. Made in Ohio, the product increases the comfort level of the interior of a structure by providing lower indoor temperatures, which reduces the amount of energy used from cooling systems.

“I believe my customers will find outstanding environmental and financial savings when we apply APV eCoolRoof,” said Murrell, who has more than a decade of building and roof coating and cleaning experience. “One of the best aspects about the product is that it can be added to a roof in any stage of its life cycle, as long as it is structurally sound. Thus, APV eCoolRoof transforms the existing roof providing an entirely new roof membrane. The products should also increase the life expectancy of facility air conditioners and cooling systems. It’s the ideal product to give an old roof new life.

“I plan to offer this product to my customers with high rise buildings, refrigerated warehouses, domed facilities, factories, hotels, movie theaters, stadiums … really, the possibilities are endless,” he continued. “I’m confident that the 10-year warranty on APV eCoolRoof for reflectivity will be appealing to business owners. And, since the product may be applied over a multitude of surfaces, including PVC, asphalt, rubber (including EPDM), metal, SBS & APP modified bitumen, single-ply, and polyurethane foam systems, this means there are thousands of property owners we can contact for consideration of application.

“Structure Cleaning and Coating provides environmentally friendly, low-pressure cleaning and sealing for exterior structures throughout the continental United States. APV eCoolRoof perfectly aligns with our goal of supporting the needs of commercial projects with eco-positive products,” Murrell said.

APV eCoolRoof meets or exceeds initial Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) requirements to reflect sunlight and heat away from a structure. The products are currently participating in a three-year certification program of age testing, after which they will qualify for ENERGY STAR® and CRRC ratings.

According to the CRRC, a benefit of a Cool Roof is the reduction in air pollution from the emissions of the roof itself, which can help reduce heat islands around cities and populous areas. These are important considerations for builders, roofing contractors and building owners wishing to make a positive impact on the environment.
