CANTON, Mass. - Sika Sarnafil, a leading manufacturer of vinyl roofing and waterproofing systems, recently recognized three roofing consultant firms for outstanding design and specification work.

A panel of eight independent roofing consultants evaluated 16 project entries submitted by consultants for consideration. The projects were evaluated on project design and complexity, design uniqueness, roof performance, and creative problem solving. First place recognition was awarded to Roof Tech Inc., of Merrillville, Ind., for their work with the Smokey Row Elementary School in Carmel, Ind. Roof Tech specified corrective action for large portions of a leaking, standing seam metal roof. The challenge was to integrate new, large roof sections into the remaining portions of an existing metal roof and to do so seamlessly from both a construction standpoint and from an aesthetic perspective. The school’s complex rooflines ruled out the use of metal.

Roof Tech ultimately recommended Sika Sarnafil’s Décor Roof System in a custom grey color. The ribbed vinyl membrane provided outstanding, watertight protection and integrated perfectly into the existing metal roof sections.

Independent Roofing Consultants (IRC) of Santa Ana, Calif., was recognized in second place for their efforts at the St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, Calif. IRC recommended a tear-off of the hospital’s entire built-up roofing assembly, 170,000-square-foot in total, and the replacement of the system’s roofing insulation.

IRC specified Sika Sarnafil's highly reflective, energy-efficient EnergySmart Roof membrane as the new roofing system, and helped to coordinate the reroofing efforts without significantly affecting the hospital population.

Third place recognition went to Roof Design & Consulting Services, Inc., of Knoxville, Tenn., for their work on a series of buildings at the Orange Grove Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., a private habilitation organization serving adults and children with developmental disabilities. Roof Design initiated and coordinated corrective action for nearly 200,000-square-foot of failing roof situated throughout the complex. The company specified Sika Sarnafil’s EnergySmart Roof for major portions of this varied project, and completed the assignment on budget and with no interruption to the Center’s activities.

Sika Sarnafil has more than 40 years experience manufacturing vinyl roofing and waterproofing systems. These time proven systems are available in “vegetated” green roof, solar and EnergySmart Roof configurations, and installed throughout the world in all types of climates.
