Kirsten is a material impact and embodied carbon specialist at Sustainable Building Partners. Her role is focused in whole building carbon and life-cycle assessments used to measure and strategize the reduction of environmental impacts due to building construction. Kirsten is also a co-chair of the Carbon Leadership Forum (CLF) Washington DC Hub where she organizes events to educate the industry on embodied carbon.
Enclosure materials influence embodied carbon goals. This means that selecting and designing for low-carbon enclosure materials is important for reducing the overall embodied carbon impact of the building. It is important to note that using heavier enclosure assemblies may require additional structural support, increasing the embodied carbon associated with the building structure.
