How do we combat aging infrastructure? That’s a question on the forefront of our minds these days after watching the Champlain Towers South devastation in Surfside, Fla.

That’s where our special guest on our latest podcast comes in. Introducing Sarah Orton, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Missouri College of Engineering. Sarah is currently working to learn more about why buildings fall and how to prevent disastrous collapses from occurring.

Right now, she’s looking into how the influence of time can contribute to a building’s collapse, using a more than $200,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.

Sarah joined us to discuss this project, which is estimated to be completed in summer 2022.  Listen in to hear more about the computer modeling she’s working with and what this can provide to the architecture + design fields.
