CertainTeed Roofing today commemorated the opening of a new state-of-the-art 60,000 square-foot asphalt shingle manufacturing facility, located 60 miles west of St. Louis in Jonesburg, Missouri. The plant is the final phase of a three-year, $100 million construction project, including a 150,000 square-foot roofing product warehouse which opened in 2014. The site serves as the Midwestern distribution site for all of the company’s high-performance roofing products, optimally servicing Central U.S. customers.

The grand opening event allowed guests, including contractors, architects, and distributors, an opportunity to take tours of the new facility, as well as listen to several local, national and international dignitaries speak about the multi-year project. Scheduled speakers included Pierre-André de Chalendar, chairman and CEO of Saint-Gobain, CertainTeed’s parent company; John Crowe, president and CEO of CertainTeed Corporation; as well as Missouri Governor Jay Nixon and Jonesburg Mayor Bob Sellenriek.

“We are honored that so many are here to support CertainTeed during our special grand opening ceremony, which also marks a fitting commemoration of National Roofing Week,” said Tom Smith, president of CertainTeed Roofing. “For more than three years, our team has worked together with state and local officials to help build this complex and to better serve our customers in the Midwestern states. Now that it is fully operational, it will stand as a reminder of our firm commitment to Missouri, as well as the support of Gov. Nixon, the Missouri Department of Economic Development, officials from Warren and Montgomery Counties and the city of Jonesburg.”

Smith also remarked on the new facility serving as a continuation of the vision set forth by CertainTeed founder George M. Brown, who opened the company’s first roofing plant in nearby East St. Louis in 1904, when it operated under the General Roofing Manufacturing Company name. “We’re proud to be able to carry on Mr. Brown’s legacy of providing high quality roofing products and efficient, local order delivery well into the 21st century.”

“Missouri is excited to see the grand opening of the CertainTeed manufacturing facility today,” said Steve Johnson, CEO of the Missouri Partnership. “CertainTeed is an incredible company, a great partner, and a perfect fit for this community and our state. Missouri’s statewide commitment to attracting companies and investment has enabled CertainTeed to bring jobs to Jonesburg, and for Jonesburg to welcome CertainTeed to Missouri, the center of excellence.”

“Missouri’s manufacturing sector continues to create jobs and grow our economy,” said Gov. Nixon. “CertainTeed’s decision to build in Jonesburg is a testament to our state’s balanced budgets, AAA credit rating, and highly-skilled workforce – the hardest-working men and women in the world.”

The new manufacturing facility produces CertainTeed’s highly popular Landmark residential roofing shingles. The production and distribution center complex brings approximately 100 local jobs to the community, along with an estimated 400 ancillary local jobs in trucking, welding and maintenance services.
