Building Enclosure was joined by Karl Fippinger, Vice President, Fire and Disaster Mitigation at the International Code Council (ICC). Karl recently joined the FEMA Mitigation Assessment Team that was deployed to evaluate building performance in areas that were affected by Hurricane Ian.

Karl sat down with us to talk about how updating building codes can protect U.S. infrastructure from the increase in natural disasters. Listen in to hear him discuss how building codes are one of our strongest defense against natural disasters.

He also goes over some investigative findings during his time with the FEMA Mitigation Assessment Team while they were looking at buildings affected by Hurricane Ian.

Karl mentions some new and updated codes we can expect from the ICC in the coming years as well.
